Understanding PR Home Care
Start here if you are determining whether our type of support matches your family’s needs.
What type of care does PR Home Care provide?
PR Home Care provides non-medical companion and lifestyle support for older adults who remain independent but may benefit from more consistency, companionship, structure, supervision, or family respite.
Support may include:
- Companionship and social engagement
- Family respite and scheduled caregiver relief
- Lifestyle and household routine support
- Light meal setup and meal companionship
- Safety observation and concern reporting
- Technology and connectivity support
- Appropriate communication with authorized family
Who is an appropriate client for PR Home Care?
Our services are designed for older adults who are generally independent and do not require hands-on personal care or skilled nursing during the visit.
A client may be a good fit if they live alone, need more social connection, benefit from routine support, have family caregivers who need scheduled relief, or need another dependable presence in the home.
Every inquiry is reviewed individually because needs, safety, routines, and home environments differ.
How is PR Home Care different from a personal care agency?
Personal care agencies may provide hands-on help with bathing, dressing, toileting, transfers, and similar activities. PR Home Care specializes in non-medical, hands-off companion and lifestyle support for adults who can manage personal care independently during our visits.
Is PR Home Care a personal care or skilled nursing agency?
No. PR Home Care does not provide skilled nursing, medical treatment, diagnosis, therapy, medication administration, injections, wound care, or hands-on personal care.
We specialize in the stage when an older adult may not need hands-on care but could benefit from dependable non-medical support before a crisis.
What does lifestyle support include?
Lifestyle support focuses on the routines and home environment surrounding the client. Depending on the agreed service plan, this may include light housekeeping, laundry, household organization, grocery-list preparation, mail sorting, light meal routines, reminders, and everyday structure.
Lifestyle support does not include heavy cleaning, home repair, medical tasks, or hands-on personal care.
Can you help with meals?
We may assist with light meal setup, simple meal routines, meal companionship, encouragement, hydration reminders, and observation of food-related concerns.
PR Home Care employees do not feed clients by hand. If a person requires hands-on feeding assistance, another level of care is needed.
Do you provide transportation?
No. PR Home Care does not provide or market transportation services. Employees do not transport clients in agency, caregiver, or client vehicles.
Our Tech & Connectivity Support may help clients use online delivery services, video calls, and other technology that supports connection and household routines.
What our team can and cannot do
Does PR Home Care provide fall prevention?
Fall prevention is an important part of our education, observation, and support approach. Employees may notice and report concerns such as clutter, loose rugs, poor lighting, walking changes, or changes in confidence.
We do not diagnose fall risk, conduct a clinical fall-risk assessment, provide physical therapy, prescribe exercises, or provide hands-on mobility assistance.
Medical, balance, medication, or mobility concerns should be discussed with an appropriate licensed healthcare professional.
Can employees provide medication reminders?
An employee may provide a verbal reminder for a client to take independently managed medication when that reminder is included in the service plan. Employees do not administer medication, select doses, fill pill organizers, handle injections, or make medication decisions.
Can support be provided in a hospital or senior living community?
Companion sitting may be considered in a hospital, rehabilitation setting, assisted living community, or other agreed location when the request fits our scope and the facility permits outside support. PR Home Care employees do not replace facility staff or perform medical or hands-on personal care tasks.
Can employees help with walking, transfers, or toileting?
No. PR Home Care does not provide hands-on walking assistance, transfers, lifting, toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, or other personal care.
Clients must be able to manage these activities independently during PR Home Care visits. If hands-on assistance is required, we will communicate that another level of care is more appropriate.
Can employees administer or organize medications?
Employees do not administer medication, fill pill organizers, select doses, handle injections, or make medical decisions.
Any medication-related support must remain within PR Home Care’s approved non-medical policies and the individual service plan. Medication questions should be directed to a physician, pharmacist, nurse, or other qualified healthcare professional.
Can PR Home Care support someone with memory changes?
Some clients with mild memory changes may be appropriate for companion support if they remain within our non-medical scope and do not require hands-on personal care, secured supervision, medical intervention, or services beyond what we can safely provide.
Suitability is determined individually. We will be honest if a client’s needs require a different type or level of care.
Is PR Home Care an emergency or around-the-clock service?
No. PR Home Care provides scheduled non-medical visits and is not an emergency response, crisis intervention, or medical monitoring service.
Call 911 for an immediate emergency. Contact the appropriate healthcare professional for new or worsening medical symptoms.
Planning services
What is the minimum visit length?
PR Home Care has a four-hour minimum for each scheduled visit. This allows enough time to provide meaningful companionship, routine support, and continuity without rushing the client.
Is PR Home Care private pay?
Yes. PR Home Care is private pay only. We do not bill Medicare, Medicaid, or health insurance.
Payment requirements, the required deposit, rates, scheduling, and applicable policies are explained before services begin. Payment is required according to the signed service agreement.
Do you publish your hourly rate online?
Rates and scheduling requirements are discussed during the support conversation. This allows us to first understand the requested schedule, location, service needs, and whether the situation fits our scope.
Where does PR Home Care provide services?
PR Home Care is based in Raleigh and is licensed to serve Wake, Durham, Pitt, Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, Granville, Chatham, Franklin, Johnston, Orange, and Harnett counties.
Actual availability depends on the client’s location, requested schedule, staffing, and whether the service request fits our scope. Contact us to confirm availability in your community.
Does being licensed in a county guarantee immediate staffing?
No. Our licensed service area shows where PR Home Care may provide services. Actual availability is confirmed for each inquiry based on the address, requested days and hours, caregiver availability, and service fit.
Is a long-term contract required?
Service frequency and duration are established in the client agreement. Before signing, families receive the applicable scheduling, payment, cancellation, and discontinuation terms so they can make an informed decision.
How soon can services begin?
Start time depends on the support conversation, service fit, required documentation, scheduling needs, caregiver availability, and completion of the onboarding process.
We do not promise immediate or same-day placement. Our goal is to establish services thoughtfully and safely.
Beginning the relationship
How are PR Home Care employees prepared?
Employees complete PR Home Care’s screening, onboarding, required employment documentation, orientation, and role-based training before placement.
Training includes professional boundaries, safety observation, communication, documentation, emergency procedures, client rights, infection prevention, fall prevention, and Virginia’s Way service standards.
How are employees screened and matched with clients?
Employees complete required screening, documentation, orientation, and role-specific training before placement. Matching considers the client’s schedule, location, routines, preferences, service needs, and employee availability.
How does PR Home Care communicate with families?
Communication is tailored to the service plan and the client’s authorized representatives. Employees document visits and promptly report relevant observations or changes through agency channels while respecting privacy and client rights.
What happens if a client’s needs change?
We review new concerns and determine whether support can safely continue within our licensed scope. If hands-on personal care, skilled care, medical monitoring, or another level of support becomes necessary, we will communicate that clearly so the family can pursue an appropriate provider.
What is Virginia’s Way?
Virginia’s Way is the legacy-based philosophy guiding PR Home Care’s culture and client experience. It is rooted in presence, dignity, patience, consistency, independence, and respect for the whole family.
You can learn more about the story behind Virginia’s Way on our About page.
How do we get started?
Begin with a support conversation. Tell us what your family is noticing, where support is needed, the preferred schedule, and any concerns that may affect safety or service fit.
We will explain our scope and determine whether PR Home Care appears to be an appropriate next step.
From first conversation to service
What happens during the initial support conversation?
We listen to what the family is noticing, discuss the requested location and schedule, explain our service boundaries, and ask questions about independence and safety. This conversation helps both sides determine whether PR Home Care appears to be the right fit before moving into formal onboarding.
What information should I have ready when I contact you?
It is helpful to share the service address, preferred days and times, the routines or concerns prompting the inquiry, who is authorized to participate in decisions, and whether the person independently manages personal care, mobility, meals, and medication.
